About 47 - Varahi Shakti Peeth
Panchasagar Shakti Peeth, located near Haridwar in Uttarakhand, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas where a part of Goddess Sati's body is believed to have fallen. Specifically, it is said that the lower jaw (teeth) of Mother Sati fell at this place. The legend recounts that when Lord Shiva was carrying the lifeless body of Sati, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember it for the welfare of the world. Her body parts fell at 51 different locations, which are now revered as Shakti Peethas.
In this particular place, two teeth of Goddess Sati are said to have fallen, and to this day, there are two holes believed to mark the location. The depth of these holes remains unmeasured, and a legend says that those who attempted to measure them in the past lost their sight. The temple is associated with the worship of Goddess Sati in the form of Varahi Devi, with Lord Shiva worshipped as Maharudra.
A fascinating story from the Padma Purana tells of two gatekeepers, Jai and Vijay, who were cursed to be born as demons after blocking the sage Sankadi Yogishwar’s entry into Vaikuntha. Their subsequent rebirth as Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu led to a reign of terror, with Hiranyaksha kidnapping the earth. This tale intertwines with the significance of the Panchasagar Shakti Peeth as a place of immense spiritual importance.
पंचसागर शक्ति पीठ, जो उत्तराखंड के हरिद्वार के पास स्थित है, उन 51 शक्ति पीठों में से एक है जहाँ देवी सती के शरीर का एक हिस्सा गिरा था। माना जाता है कि यहाँ देवी सती का निचला जबड़ा (दांत) गिरा था। किंवदंती के अनुसार, जब भगवान शिव सती के मृत शरीर को लेकर चल रहे थे, तब भगवान विष्णु ने अपने सुदर्शन चक्र से सती के शरीर को काट दिया ताकि दुनिया की भलाई हो सके। सती के शरीर के अंग 51 स्थानों पर गिरे, जो अब शक्ति पीठों के रूप में पूजित हैं।
इस विशेष स्थान पर देवी सती के दो दांत गिरे थे, और आज भी वहाँ दो गहरे स्थान हैं, जिनकी गहराई अब तक मापी नहीं जा सकी है। एक किंवदंती के अनुसार, जो भी व्यक्ति इन गहराईयों को मापने की कोशिश करता था, वह अपनी आँखें खो देता था। इस मंदिर में देवी सती की पूजा वराही देवी के रूप में की जाती है, और भगवान शिव की पूजा महारुद्र के रूप में होती है।
पद्म पुराण के अनुसार, जय और विजय नामक दो द्वारपाल थे, जिन्हें भगवान विष्णु के भव्य स्थान वैकुण्ठ में प्रवेश के दौरान संकदी योगेश्वर द्वारा रोका था। इसके परिणामस्वरूप उन्हें श्राप दिया गया कि वे दोनों असुरों के रूप में पृथ्वी पर जन्म लेंगे। उनका जन्म हिरण्याक्ष और हिरण्यकशिपु के रूप में हुआ, जिन्होंने असंख्य शक्तियाँ प्राप्त की और धरती पर आतंक मचाया। यह कथा पंचसागर शक्ति पीठ की महत्वता को और भी बढ़ाती है, क्योंकि यह स्थल आध्यात्मिक शक्ति और आस्था का केंद्र है।
