Sri Vishalakshi Devi Shaktipeeth, the 17th of the Ashtadasha Shaktipeeths, is located in Kashi (Varanasi), Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of the Ganges at Mir Ghat. The goddess appears in two forms: Swayambhuva and Archamurti. It is believed that Goddess Sati’s earrings fell here, making it a sacred site also known as Manikarnika. The temple is near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The Vishalakshi Devi Temple is associated with the Kajali festival, celebrated by women during Bhadrapada Shuddha Tadiya.
The goddess is revered as Annapurna and is adorned with a golden cloak and garlands, symbolizing the fulfilment of devotees' desires. The temple dome is built in the South Indian style, and its spiritual significance is tied to Shiva’s presence in Kashi as Mahakala, granting salvation to those who die there. Vishalakshi Devi is also connected to Mahakali in Tantra and is seen as the universal ruler in Puranic descriptions.
श्री विशालाक्षी देवी शक्ति पीठ, अष्टादश शक्ति पीठों में से 17वां, उत्तर प्रदेश के काशी (वाराणसी) में गंगा के किनारे मीर घाट पर स्थित है। देवी के दो रूप हैं: स्वयंभू और अर्चामूर्ति। यह माना जाता है कि यहां देवी सती के कर्ण कुंडल गिरे थे, जिससे यह स्थान पवित्र हुआ और इसे मणिकर्णिका कहा जाता है। यह मंदिर काशी विश्वनाथ मंदिर, जो बारह ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक है, के पास स्थित है। कजली उत्सव, जो भाद्रपद शुद्ध तृतीया को मनाया जाता है, इस मंदिर से जुड़ा हुआ है।
देवी को अन्नपूर्णा के रूप में पूजनीय माना जाता है और उन्हें स्वर्ण वस्त्र और मालाओं से अलंकृत किया जाता है। मंदिर का गुंबद दक्षिण भारतीय शैली में बना है। काशी में शिव महाकाल के रूप में पूजित हैं और यहां मृत्यु को प्राप्त लोगों को मुक्ति प्रदान करते हैं। विशालाक्षी देवी को तांत्रिक परंपरा में महाकाली और पुराणों में विश्व की शासक शक्ति के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है।
